Main Idea

Have you ever blamed the camera for a blurry picture, only to find out the lens was dirty? Spiritually, we do the same thing. We blame stress, pain, and pressure, but Jesus says the issue may be deeper: the heart. And when God purifies the heart, He restores our sight.

Scripture

Matthew 5: 1-8

Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.

The Beatitudes

He said:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God.

Psalms 24: 1-4

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
    the world, and all who live in it;
for he founded it on the seas
and established it on the waters.

Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?
The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not trust in an idol
or swear by a false god.

James 4: 7-8

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Ezekiel 36: 26-27

26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

Moving Forward

Ask God to search your heart and show you anything that is dividing your devotion to Him. A pure heart is not a perfect heart, but a heart that is fully surrendered to God. This week, choose to lay down whatever is clouding your spiritual vision and ask the Lord to make your heart clean, focused, and undivided so you can see Him more clearly.
