Follow Jesus Request Prayer Make an Impact

Main Idea

Have you ever felt powerless in your spiritual life, like your prayers hit the ceiling or the enemy has the upper hand? The truth is, if you’re a follower of Jesus, you’ve been given spiritual power and authority. But here’s the catch: authority only works if you know you have it and if you know how to walk in it. God doesn’t just want us to survive spiritual battles; He wants us to stand strong and advance His Kingdom with boldness.

When we walk in alignment submitted to God, connected to His Word, in right relationship with leaders, and obedient to His will we walk in real, tangible authority that can change lives, tear down strongholds, and push back darkness. The enemy knows who’s truly walking in authority and he backs down when we stand firm in the name of Jesus.

Scripture

Matthew 28:18-19

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Luke 4: 1-4

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted[a] by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.

The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’

Discussion Questions

  • Icebreaker: Have you ever had a moment where you felt like your prayer made a difference in a situation? What happened?
  • Have you ever experienced spiritual resistance like something was trying to block or delay God’s plan for your life? How did you respond?
  • Read Matthew 28:18–19 and Acts 1:8. What do these verses tell us about the kind of authority and power Jesus has given to believers?
  • Based on Luke 4:1–14, what strategies did Jesus use to stand against the devil? How do those strategies apply to us today?
  • What does it mean to “submit to God” (James 4:7)? How does submission relate to walking in spiritual authority?

Moving Forward

God has already given us everything we need to walk in spiritual power and authority. Our part is to stay aligned submitted to His Word, obedient to His will, and connected to His presence. Don’t shrink back when opposition rises. Stand, speak, and walk in the authority you’ve been given. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in you.
