Series: What If It's True?
And He Took The Child In His Arms
Dear Lord Jesus, I admit that I’ve fallen short. I’ve sinned and need your forgiveness. I believe that You lived, died, and rose again so that I could be connected to God. I confess you as my Lord and personal Savior. I give you my past, present, and future. Take my life and use it. I give it to You. Thank You for saving me. Amen.Tell Us Your Story

The Main Idea
Sometimes, the most important truths aren’t new; they’re just hard to remember. We can hear the gospel a hundred times and still miss the heart of it. Like the disciples, we often hear what we want to hear from Jesus instead of what He’s saying.
This week, we’re reminded that Jesus came not to give us status or comfort, but to serve and give His life for us. And in response, we’re called to live with childlike faith, humble, dependent, and trusting.
Scriptures
Mark 10:32-45
32 They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him. 33 “We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, 34 who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise.”
The Request of James and John
35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”
36 “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.
37 They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.”
38 “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said. “Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?”
39 “We can,” they answered.
Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, 40 but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.”
41 When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John. 42 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Mark 10:13-16
13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.
Questions for Discussion
- Have you ever had a moment where someone repeated something you’ve heard a dozen times, but that time, it finally landed? What made it different?
- Why do you think we often hear what we want to hear from God instead of what He’s saying?
- Read Mark 10:35–45. In what ways do we still chase significance, status, or control in our spiritual lives? How does Jesus redefine greatness?
- Jesus says the Kingdom belongs to those who receive it like a child (Mark 10:13–16). What would it look like for you to approach God this week with childlike faith?
Moving Forward
We’re not just called to hear the gospel—we’re called to be shaped by it. Let’s return to Jesus again and again, not with ambition or credentials, but with open hands and honest hearts.
Ask yourself this week: “Where do I need to lay my life down?” And then remember: Jesus laid down His life—not just to save you, but to free you to do the same.
