Series: Living the Stories of Jesus
Hidden in Plain Sight
Dear Lord Jesus, I admit that I’ve fallen short. I’ve sinned and need your forgiveness. I believe that You lived, died, and rose again so that I could be connected to God. I confess you as my Lord and personal Savior. I give you my past, present, and future. Take my life and use it. I give it to You. Thank You for saving me. Amen.Tell Us Your Story

Main Idea
What if the most valuable treasure in your life isn’t something you need to go searching for…but something already in front of you, hidden in plain sight? Jesus tells two short parables about a treasure and a pearl to show that the Kingdom of God is available to us now, but many miss it. Not because it’s hard to find, but because we don’t see its worth.
The message of the Kingdom isn’t just about a better afterlife. It’s about Jesus the King being present now. When you truly see His worth, surrender stops feeling like loss and starts becoming your greatest joy.
Scripture
Matthew 13:44-46
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
N.T. Wright: The message of the kingdom isn’t an escape from the world. It’s about God transforming the world, and you, right where you are
Exodus 33:15
15 Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.
John 1:11
11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.
Discussion Questions
- Icebreaker: Have you ever found something valuable or meaningful that you didn’t realize was special at first? (Maybe something in storage, a relationship, a skill?) Share the story.
- What do you think it means that the Kingdom of God is “hidden in plain sight”? Why do you think some people miss it? even Christians?
- Read Matthew 13:44–46. What do these parables teach us about the value of the Kingdom and what it costs to truly follow Jesus?
- What is one area of your life where Jesus might be asking you to say, “You are better than this”? How can this group pray for and encourage you in that?
Moving Forward
Take time this week to name one thing in your life that competes with Jesus. It could be your comfort, your status, your money, or your control. Write it down and pray daily:
“Jesus, You are better than this.”
It’s not about earning Jesus, it’s about receiving the One who gave everything to make you His own.
