Series: Praying Through The Psalms
This is Why I Pray
Dear Lord Jesus, I admit that I’ve fallen short. I’ve sinned and need your forgiveness. I believe that You lived, died, and rose again so that I could be connected to God. I confess you as my Lord and personal Savior. I give you my past, present, and future. Take my life and use it. I give it to You. Thank You for saving me. Amen.Tell Us Your Story

The Main Idea
Have you ever forgotten something really obvious, like your own child’s birthday, or why you walked into a room? Our lives are so fast-paced, distracted, and overloaded that even the most important things can fade into the background.
Spiritually, we do the same. We forget the grace we’ve received, the prayers answered, and the miracles we’ve lived through. Psalm 103 is David grabbing his soul by the collar and saying, “Don’t forget.” He’s not reacting to a crisis; he’s choosing to remember God’s faithfulness and respond with deep gratitude.
Scriptures
Deuteronomy 6:12 (NIV):
Be careful that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
Psalm 106:7 (NIV):
When our ancestors were in Egypt, they gave no thought to your miracles; they did not remember your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea.
Ecclesiastes 12:1 (NIV):
Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them.”
Psalms 103
Of David.
1 Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
2 Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
3 who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
5 who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
6 The Lord works righteousness
and justice for all the oppressed.
7 He made known his ways to Moses,
his deeds to the people of Israel:
8 The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love.
9 He will not always accuse,
nor will he harbor his anger forever;
10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve
or repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his love for those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
14 for he knows how we are formed,
he remembers that we are dust.
15 The life of mortals is like grass,
they flourish like a flower of the field;
16 the wind blows over it and it is gone,
and its place remembers it no more.
17 But from everlasting to everlasting
the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
and his righteousness with their children’s children—
18 with those who keep his covenant
and remember to obey his precepts.
19 The Lord has established his throne in heaven,
and his kingdom rules over all.
20 Praise the Lord, you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his bidding,
who obey his word.
21 Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts,
you his servants who do his will.
22 Praise the Lord, all his works
everywhere in his dominion.
Praise the Lord, my soul.
Questions for Discussion
- What’s something funny or small that you’ve forgotten recently, like your keys, a name, or why you entered a room?
- Why do you think we so easily forget spiritual moments, like answered prayers or God’s faithfulness in tough seasons?
- Read Psalm 103:2-5. Which of these “benefits” from God do you tend to forget most easily? Why do you think that is?
- What’s the difference between seeing God as a “boss” versus seeing Him as a “Father”? How does this affect your prayer life and your gratitude?
- What is one thing God has done for you that you don’t want to forget this week? How can we help each other remember God’s grace more consistently?
Take a few minutes this week to pause and remember, not to ask God for anything, but to thank Him for what He’s already done. Gratitude isn’t about having a perfect life, but remembering the perfect grace we’ve received.
