The Path of Grace in the Pain of Injustice

About the Series

Considering whether a good and powerful God exists while we suffer and see evil in this world is a big deal. The Bible doesn't give a simple answer to this. But it does talk a lot about how God helps us when life gets tough. It even says that God knows what suffering feels like because He went through it too. Everyone faces hard times. But according to Peter (one of Jesus first disciples), God gives us what we need to get through tough times and live a Resurrected life. It's like going through a fire/storm/troubles makes us stronger. So, even when life gets really hard, we can come out of it stronger and full of hope, living a better life.

Main Point

How do you respond when faced with hurt from others? 1 Peter 3:8-12 explains what we need to do, discovering the call to embody Christ’s love and extend blessings, regardless of the treatment we receive.

1 Peter 3:8-12

8 Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. 9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. 10 For,

“Whoever would love life
and see good days
must keep their tongue from evil
and their lips from deceitful speech.
11 They must turn from evil and do good;
they must seek peace and pursue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

Discussion Questions

  • Read together verses 8-12.
  • In verse 8 Peter lists 5 adjectives to describe the attitudes with which Christians should treat others, especially other believers.
  • Can you give some practical examples of what each of those would look like?
  • Of those five attitudes, is there any you find come more naturally to you than the others? Can you share a recent example where you were able embody one of those attitudes?
  • Of those five attitudes listed, which do you find the most difficult and why?

Verse to Memorize:

9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. 1 Peter 3:9

Idea Principal

Y sus labios no hablen engaño;
11 Apártese del mal, y haga el bien;
Y sus oídos atentos a sus oraciones;

1 Pedro 3:9
