About the Series

New Year's is always a time to start resolutions, but what would it look like to set goals and resolutions in our walk with God? This series will make room in our hearts to do just that. As we surrender, listen, obey, and worship like never before, we believe it will be the best year.

Main Idea

We know from his Word that the more we surrender to God, the more of his presence and love we will experience. But Gods call to surrender is often a big step of courage.

Proverbs 3:5-7

5  Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
6  In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
7  Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.

2 Chronicles 1:7-10

7 That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”
8 Solomon answered God, “You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place.
9 Now, Lord God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth.
10 Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?”

1 Kings 11:1-3

1 Now King Solomon loved many foreign women along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittite women,
2 from the nations concerning which the Lord had said to the sons of Israel, “You shall not associate with them, nor shall they associate with you, for they will surely turn your heart away after their gods.” Solomon held fast to these in love.
3 He had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines, and his wives turned his heart away.

Discussion Questions

  1. Reflect on a time in your life when leaning on your own understanding led to unexpected consequences. How might surrendering to God’s guidance have altered the outcome?
  2. In the sermon, Solomon’s life is highlighted as an example of both wisdom and later disobedience. Discuss the challenges and temptations individuals face in maintaining a consistent commitment to God’s will over time.
  3. The speaker mentions the concept of immediate outcomes versus delayed consequences for our choices. Share personal experiences or insights into decisions that had immediate results versus those with long-term implications.
  4. Consider the three questions posed in the sermon: Why do you hesitate to give God full access to every part of your life? What fears might be associated with surrendering control? Identify the most challenging area in your life to give God control and discuss ways to overcome these challenges.

Verse to Memorize:
